As I said i am new at this and i probably see alot that is normal wear and tear so forgive me for the silly questions when i do but it looks to me like there's some doubling or something going on in these.
The 2004 on liberty, the 2 and the 4......the BRTY is bigger than LIE?
Thanks!

Some years the devices may be different from year to year or the same during several years. But each year they make a different master die to use that year. Some years they changed the devices thus making a large/small date in the part of the year. So comparing one year to another is not always the right thing to do. IE: The 2001-2004 Cents obverse has wider devices than other years around them. On your 2004 the LIB is weaker possibly as a struck through issue (grease) or a weakness of strike. But I lean to the first issue. Different other factors can affect the coin also. Damage from circulation/coin wrapper/punishment that coins suffer from coin murder to experiment with them in the garage. So things can happen during striking/post minting damage. Seems like people try their hardest to put coins through their paces.

But none the less exciting for me,I guess you could say i have alot more time than i do money...lol
I think ebay got me started on the error coin's,and once i searched a few,it's very very addictive...I actually had a 43 penny I found about a month ago that honest to God said, In God We Rust and only a shadow of a T was there,I guess struck through grease?? and I showed it to my daughter & grandson one day when she was here and later that night i took my old coin's back to trade in and when i got home was when i realized...OMG,dummy me had that penny in the wrong spot after bragging about and it's now in the big ole green coin star machine??......Grrrrrrrr....Good thing i take disappointment well....lol Embarassed

There have been dozens of minor changes in the design of the Lincoln cent in the 100 years it has been in circulation. The largest change, of course, was the change from the wheat reverse to the memorial reverse in 1959, but there have been many smaller changes. What you are noticing on your 2004 cent is just one of those changes.
