I thought i had found a 1969D with no FG on reverse But the picture shows it.

They are there as it is part of the master die. Sometimes they get polished off or the coin may receive a bump from another coin or a struck through grease error. So they were on the die when they started striking coins.

For what it is worth, there seems to be a lot of "errors" in the newest guide. Caveat Emptor! I believe Chuck might have been the one that alearted everyone, very recently.

Im not a real proponent of the 'missing initials' coins, but a few have caught on and stuck - like the 1982 half dollar. I think the listing of the 1969D cent missing the initials is an attempt to get another one to 'stick'. Like the 1989 "no VDB" obverse, I think this one will see a slow, painful death. I don't really plan to look for them.
Coop is right - ALL cent dies started their life with the initials. Polishing, die wear, and other factors can lead to them beconing mushy, faint, or missing altogether, but I really don't see this as an 'error' - it's just another part of die wear and maintenance.
