This is a two part question. First, when going thru pocket change do you find yourself ignoring or just giving a cursory look at non cents?(no pun intended) I realize there are varieties out there for the other denomonations but I just do not give it any time.
Also when going thru your change is there any year that gets you anticipating when you see the date? I look closely at the obv. and rev. of all cents that go thru my hands but I get a bit excited if I see the year is 1994(DDR) or 1999(type-2). I think these could still be pulled out of change with a higher success rate then other varieties. At least for higher money coins.
What do you think?

I like to look at every coin I get in change and have found several minor error coins.

Joe- Im a lincoln cent variety collector. When I look at pocket change, I usually look at everything, no matter denomination. Heck, if I were to ignore anything not being a one cent, I wouldnt have discovered the 2004P DDO Nickel.

I agree with Gabe, and look through everything. By doing so, I have found many varieties on other denominations over the years. Lincoln cents however, will be what I study and collect the most. Not only that, it is the cheapest too!

I guess I'm the first to admit that all other denominations are spending money to me. I don't care enough to bother looking.
As for Lincolns...nothing really gets me excited, but I like a nice no-corrosion coin from the mid-80s...hoping for the nice RPMs.

Mostly just look at cents here...although I do a quick date check and look for a few others in other denominations (82 No P dime for example) I'm nowhere near as comprehensive in my search efforts of others as I am with Lincolns. I check every single 1992-date Lincoln for mismatched reverses, and the 1994, 1995, 1995-D for Doubled Dies...heck I look at every Lincoln I get under a loupe these days.

There's a candy dish that gets all my change at the end of each day. When it gets full I will roll the nickels, dimes & quarters and spend them. The pennies, I look at under magnification, especially for those Wide AM's and 1994 & 1995 Doubled Dies. I have searched circulated and uncirculated cents both and my best and favorite find has been a 100% non-copper cent.

I am not good at all at looking at pocket change. I look at statehood quarters looking for errors, such as rotated reverses and missing clad layers. I saved quite a few of the 1999 and 2000 quarters and I havent looked thru all of them. I was saving those before I had heard of the rotated reverse errors. I was aware of the missing clad issue much earlier. I had found a 1999 quarter that was brown on one side and I had it examined and weighed and it was not a missing clad error. I might look at 1972 cents. I look at 1983 cents and sometimes 1984. I Look at all the 1995 cents of course.

I found a 95-P DDO once, some RPM's. I've been dry for a while. Lately just a very nice cud a few strike thru and like that.
