Actually there are two completely different and unrelated forces at work here.
The doubling on the left side of the memorial building is typical machine doubling.
But the break in the copper toward the rim ont he outer lettering is caused by split copper plating during the strike. This actually has nothing to do with the machine doubling elsewhere on the coin. _________________ C. D. Daughtrey
