I didn't notice when I posted a small pic of this 5 mill token.

It has a nice 180 degree rotated clash from the 5 showing in the saguaro. (shows in the big pic)

This token has coin orientation like a cent so the flat top of the 5 should be at the base of the saguaro but it's on the top in the clash. I've seen these tokens with either orientation but this shows that the same die was used with both orientations. It also looks like it's been clashed more than once with slight shifts.

Ed, that is pretyty nice. I have never seen a "5' token, just the "1". Yes, the clash looks to have happened more than once.

Dick,

At 5/1000 of a dollar and the coin is almost quarter size and copper it must have kept the copper mines busy. Maybe it was a way to keep the local economy busy. Smile

Ed, when I was working for ASARCO, Copper was 19 cents a pound, and Millwrights were earning $3.95/hr. That is where the script I mentioned was issued at. When one is 75 miles from a large city, one tends to use what is available! you mention the size of the 5 mill token. It is not quite the size of the tool chips we used for tools drawn from the tool-crib. They were pure copper, and stamped with your number. Just to give an example of the value of copper, then, the mines could profitabily operate with ore at .05%, and the gold, silver, molybdinum, among other metals, etc, were NET profit. We, (ASARCO) shipped three-five carloads of "moly" per month, (in 50 gallon sized drums, but much stronger). The copper was 28-30% pure when sent to the refinery, and the posted amount of silver per month, was $50,000.00. No mention as to the gold values, (and the area is high in gold content). I know this is not in the right section, but it is related to the copper tokens, etc. Rolling Eyes
