I've pulled a few 1943's out from a bag of wheaties and a couple seem suspicious in that they appear to be plated, but I'm not sure. Is there a way to find out for sure?
thanks again,
Rock

Rock, if you look at the rims, they will show thr "re-processing", OVER any dings, etc. Which makes them worth what it says one cent. Why? Altered.

The reprocessed (re-zinc plated) ones often look blueish, sometimes the plating pools near the date/MM and makes them look doubled. The luster is not like normal ones.
If you meant copper plated.... try a magnet. If it's copper color but magnetic then it was plated.

no, I meant re-zinc plated. Well, none of them have that blueish look so maybe they are ok. I'm not a big collector of steelies so had to ask. Thanks eagames.

Rock, I don't know who is "re-processing" the '43 cents,,but I have gotten several, both in packets of three coins, PDS mints, and clearly marked as such. However I also have a few that came in singles, so it is anyones guess who, or how many.

Ken, from the ones I have received, and the ones that were given to me by Littleton Coin Company, the rims are the point that will determine the case: The dings are shiny, instead of showing the accumulation of micro-particles of dirt, and dust, etc.

They often look painted and look like the fields will run.

I have a few which I think are original. It's a different appearance that's hard to describe. Since the originals are struck that way, the fields have a flat appearance--and not that runny, orange-peel surface described by others.

I have about 10 rolls of mixed 43's which I haven't gone thru yet but I have glanced at some of them. There are some that are just too clean, too shiny and looked too good to be athentic, but I haven't done any kind of comparison with the rest of them. At some point I am going to post a couple of pics of what I think are replated and original to see what others think.

I have a set of three, P,D, S, that are identified as refurbished, or restored. Eit6her way, they are altered, and worth the face value. Mine came from LLC, as part of a ckeck, and buy/return.they can be posted as desired.

I take my statement back.I meant that usually a real shiny coin that the color looks a little off would be re-processed.I just dug out my set of slabbed 67's and the are all full of luster. But overall I think they just have a flat appearance. You can usually tell a refurb coin right off the bat.At least I can.Dick,I too have a few of those 3 coins sets from llc and use them as a reference also.Alot of doubling on the re-furb too.

Ken, you are right. Thar is what burns me, the "WORTHWHILE COIN WAS RUINED, AND MADE VALULESS, BY THE RE-FURBISHING, WHEN IT COUld have been 'left alone, and be worth more money! Excuse the caps. I can't see that going on until I look upm and sh**! Caps. It is bad enough that I am legally blind, but also NOT a typist. LOL!
