Back when J.T. Stanton took over PCI to clean it up he came up with a brilliant idea of having experts in different series examine requested coins for a fee, and the label of said holders would include the signature of the expert to certify that they had examined the piece and agreed with its grade/authenticity.

I was asked to be a part of this 'Signature Series' program and agreed. Less than a year later PCI folded because the owner passed and the widow didn't want anyone else running the company.

The equipment and other assets of the company sold to David Lawrence who opened 'Dominion Grading Service' - or DGS for short.

DGS took the 'Signature Series' idea and ran with it, and has asked me to do Lincoln cents for them. I accepted, and just yesterday we sealed a deal on how the service would work.

Collectors who want to have their coins personally examined by me can submit their coins to DGS requesting this service. DGS sends the coins to me, I examine, attribute, and grade them, and DGS seals them with a label bearing my signature and sends them back to the collector.

I can grade normal Lincoln cents and/or attribute die varieties using the system published in my books and on coppercoins.com, and DGS will annotate the die number on the label. I believe the fee for this service to be reasonable, and am excited about the idea of once again having coins on the market that are in holders that show I examined the coins personally.

You can find out more about this service by visiting the DGS website at www.dominiongrading.com, clicking on the 'submission center' link, then clicking on 'signature series'.

Chuck - this is great news and congratulations. Just one small item that no other grading company wants to tackle or is reluctant to take the big step; will they grade and annotate trail dies?

BJ - Let me work with them on the doubled dies and RPMs for a while, then we can talk about the trail dies. I wouldn't see why not, but I cannot answer for them.

One important thing is to figure out how many spaces they allow for a die number. PCI always had problems getting the entire die number on the slab for doubled dies and RPMs, and I know trail die numbers are longer.

Chuck
Just wanted to let you know that the link you have posted on your first post does not work. It seems the comma after the m in com is part of the link as posted.

Hey Dick
I know I am getting old and senile, and my wife has told me blind, but the only link I see is in the last paragraph. Unless I am totally missing something, and that I would not doubt.

What a difference a comma, or back-slash, makes!

Hi Chuck - I would be happy if they just started encapsulating the wavy step dies that have the Coppercoins' listing number. At least this way it is a foot in the door.

If it ever comes to the point that they do want to start using the traildies.com number, I am sure that number can be abbreviated a bit and still imply what die is encapsulated.

No matter what though, it is still a great thing for Coppercoins. I am sure that this marriage will work between you and DGS.
