Posted this on another Forum where some of the people are interested in die cracks. Mike Diamond replyed that this is more acurately described as a split die. Narrow as far as split dies go, but most likely rare, for he has not seen this one before.
Now I have to decide if I want to go back through some 1500 or so of my recycle cents to find it again.

That is totally cool. I'm not an error collector so to say, but I've been looking for that very thing for about 20 yrs. I just think it looks cool. I actually just found a wheat with a full vertical crack down the middle of the reverse from rim to rim but it's not nearly has wide and raised as yours. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Now that's a keeper! I save all the die cracks, It has been one of my interests, particularily when the '83 would come out with a bunch, three, to five , on the rev. I like to watch the progression of the crack on the state quarters. Was the other forum, CONECA? If not, could you state, or post a link?
Thanks dor sharing,
Dick

Yes, those are scarce. And for the record, I don't do errors, so I don't pay a lot of attention to them, but I can say I was unaware of a 1988 split die. There could be fewer than 100 of those just because of the nature of the error.
Now counter that with die cracks and we've got a whole different story. Die cracks are very common on all years' cents.

That would never happen to a "D", naturally. All the "good stuff" just happens to the "Philly" cents. My next life, will be lived on the EAST coast!

That's not necessarily true, Dick. I've NEVER seen an RPM on a P mint cent. In fact, I can safely say they are impossible!

Chick, I don't know how a "Philly RPM???" got into the picture, but I know for sure "There ain't no such animal"! As you sday that is impossible, unless they have gone back to the WWII era, when the nickles had a nice big one.. I'm still looking for a log cabin, and he'e already headrd for the white house! I gotta change banks! I'm happy for those of you, who are able to find the '09 cents. maybe I have too many sins accumulated, and have started paying for them!

My statement was meant to say that for some things living in the West is the only way to go...like RPMs.

Living "out West, yes, I agree with you, there. Too crowded "back East. Of course CA is getting to be "people", from border to border, and over half of them aren't even US citizens! Too bad it wasn't an influx from the north. I would enjoy, learning French, seriously! That is not to say all they speak in Canada is French. I understand there is quite a mixture of 'tongues" there, even some inglish is spoken.
