I dont know what it is. I would like to see pictures of better examples and see if it recurs. There are about 11 different varieties of this date. Unfortunately, PCGS took over Coinfacts.com and wants us to pay to see it now. Whats that all about? But I digress. If anyone has access to that, or another source, like a Newcombe guide? Penny Whimsy? ...maybe that halo effect has been catalogued? It looks similar to a "lathe line" that has been documented on an Indian Cent date or two. Those are smaller and form concentric circles.

I "posted" before, on this, and have thought about the possibility of worn die, coming down to the backing of the devices on the die, and the possibility of that being the cause. Beyond that, I am only guessing. A photo with much more light, and also both faces migh give an inkling as to what happened.

It might be something like the date on this 1894.
I never figured out what it was, my best guess was it was from liquid on the coin growing corrosion in the recessed areas of the date.

The style of this coin alone means it has to be 1836.

With regard to the question asked in the initial post of this thread - no clue. Sorry.

GarryN, If you had my eyes, you would understand. Crying or Very sad I was going by the date. As far as the "lady", I have no idea. Not my area. Wink Chuck makes a good point: I had the "3" confused with an "8".

That is a 6, isn't it. Coin Facts, as it is, lists 7 varieties.
