Help me folks. I'm sure everyone gets into this inevitable rut over time but I'm really getting dismayed on collecting Lincoln rpms. I've been at this for 20+ years (15 min. away from Harry Ellis's home and total collection in the early days) with what I hope to call a decent collection and see no end with all the new additions day after day and one more minor than the next. If a dire situation should occour and I, or you, need to sell our collection asap what are we to do if we haven't previously spent mega$$$ and mega time learning to take pics for the net? This "hobby" is definately now a question on monetary priorities as I enter retirement considerations. I'll probably keep all my rpm's or throw them to the family which might equal a order a Pizza HUT, God forbid!

You have been there befor and you will be again, as we all have.
Look at it like this: what a pleasure it is to turn back all the pages and the memories (not so much the bad one/s) and float away into your own world and refleck ... hummmmmmmm helps me from time to time, if you throw in the towel ... you will kick yourself in the arse, I did (and will not again) and when I get to that place your at ... stop, walk away and then come back after you put your thoughts back in order. (that's almost as good as finding that elusive coin you allways wanted and thought you'd never find and the next coin ... bingo)
Have you thought ... how it would be ... to get, say into a club of young numistmatics and giving a helping hand there ... looking into a young kids face as he/she finds, what must be the holy grail of coins (least to them) ... what a hoot to help that alone ... don't know if you had anyone help you get interested in studing coins or not ... think about it ... what do you want to do with your finds if you could do anything in the world with them. (can't take with ... and what would you really like to see happen with them)
Then again ... sometimes, it is best to get away from it all together ... least for awhile ... different things work for different people.
But most of all ... you have been there befor and will be again, until you move on to something else and like this ... it will come and go ... step yourself ... enjoy ... if you aren't then maybe it is best to move on. (myself ... thats all I can speak to anyways ... been there done that ... and will again ... but allways come back) cause I do enjoy it so.
Hope this helped more than it hurt ... eeeck didn't mean to cause any of those un wanted feeling/s. Hope it helped, ifya want ... shoot me an email ... will be glad to just talk, if that helps to.
Would hate to see ya walk away from it after so long, and if ya do, I feel you will kick yourself in the boota for it. (lock the collection up some were ... spend some time doing other things and if you feel like (be knowing your thinking about it - your collection) come back to it later on, if that i what it takes)
Cheers

Almost forgot ... about the minor RPM/s or really minor stuff that you or maybe I wouldn't even consider ...
OLD SAYING:
One person's trash ... is another person's treasure ... still applies here.
Best of luck to yas. (wishing you the best)

Thanks Pennyhound for your response and concern. All in all, I definately knew better on my negative stance of late. Upon reflection, I sincerely regret this thread. If anything can be said, it's that this site is comprised of folks who can be considered as family, willing to listen, consider opinions and offer help in countless ways when "things" seem to turn sour. Lord knows we all have our ups and downs over time! Thank you for the responce, insight, encouragement and "slap upside the head" I tend to need from time to time.

Doug,
No need to aplogize for this thread. I think you bring up a perfectly valid and appropriate point. I have been collecting for over 37 years, and during that time I must have felt overwhelmed or completly out of it almost each and every year at one time or another. Sometimes, it's best to step back and look at where you are going. Invariably, the love of the hobby, and the great folks you meet brings you back into the fold. It's normal to feel that way. After all, most folks have another life they must attend to,but you will always go back to what brings you happiness and solice. In other words...don't sweat the small stuff We won't let you go anywhere!

Doug,
I couldn't agree more with what has already been said. It is healthy to take it slow or even step away once in a while. As far as monetary priorities I get the most satisfaction picking up a box of circulated cents from the bank and searching them thru a microscope. Sometimes I pick some older solid date rolls to search for specific things. Joe
