I have been asked to talk about the IHC series at a local coin club and would like any or all of you to give me some "Talking Points" to help me come up with things of interest.
Chuck I have your July 13 2009 post here in the Forum regarding the four divisions and that will be a good point to cover with these collectors.
Any help anyone can up with will be useful!
Thanks Jack

A few ideas....
Tell of large cents and the change to small cents (with FE cents) and the reasons for the change and the history at the time (civil war).
The designer info.
Then tell that it's not an indian, the real indian is on the buffalo 5c.
Then the different metals and change from CN to bronze.
The different date styles, when they change from flat to curved.
The obverse type change in 1886.
The semi keys and keys.
Varieties RPDs and doubled dies and Longacre doubling.
How they were made with dates punched.
The change to Lincolns and how long IHCs were still in circulation.

The only thing I can think to add is the pointed and rounded busts.

Ed's list is a good one. The only things I can add...
thickness of Flying Eagle/Copper-Nickel cents versus bronze cents
what would 1 penny buy in 1859
the copper nickel cents used to be called "nickels" before we ever had those 5 cent coins

The 1873 S-1 is quite the monster DDO...and a very hard one to find unattributed.

Don't forget to mention the "Agricultural Wreath" reverse.

You could mention something about a mintmark being added in 1908.

Just want to THANK each and all of you for the input regarding IHC for the Coin Club program last night. WE had about 20 collectors present and I think I used some of each of your comments. Two of the collectors had coins that were very interesting; one was 1867 Snow 1 repunched date in VF and the other was 1895 Snow 1 repunched date in Mint condition. The owner of the 1895 asked what the RPD note on the 2 X 2 holder was and was unable to see the repunch until I showed him a picture in "Flying Eagle and Indian Cent Die Varieties" by Larry R. Steve and Kevin J. Flynn. He had paid $90. for the coin and could not remember why he had bought the coin that was noted as MS64.
Thanks Jack

Dick
The "Flying Eagel and Indian Cent Die Varieties" is a book by Steve and Flynn, as for as I know it is not on the web as a site.
When I did a search I did find several copies of the book forsale.
It is a very good source of information and lots of big pitchers of die varieties.

Jack, I plugged into the browser the title, and after all was said and done, I came up with "http://www.indianheads.org/index.html.
A very interesting site, plus a bunch of beautiful images!
Not every "boo-boo", turns out bad...
