Anyone know what the plans are to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln wheatie ? I was thinking it would be fascinating to recreate the original by having a 2009S Lincoln wheat cent with the V.D.B. initials in the original placement. I realize they would need to make few more than the 484,000 they made in 1909 but nothing can beat the original. It would be a tribute to both Abe and VDB.

I think you will be seeing a lot about the 2009 redesign in the next year or so. I am kinda anxious to see what they come up with, but I also agree that a tribute to the oldies would be nice. Not many coins go through a 100 year cycle.

Here's one.... http://www.fuenterrebollo.com/faqs-numismatica/1780-thaler.html

(same date even, 1780, was used into the 1930s)

But you're right. 100 years is unprecedented for US coins.

I posted some info from CoinWorld on this a few threads down. The thread title is 2009 cents. I think they plan to make a limited copper cent in the original design. Joe
