Ok Humor me... 1909 VDB was placed on the back of the Wheat Cent.. Also that same year VDB was removed from the reverse because of the negative feedback.. Then it was replaced on the obverse.. just under the shoulder of Lincoln, in 1918 but was tested in 1917.. Am I right so far? Has anyone heard mention of a 1916 with the obverse VDB?
Thanks
Tiggerlilly

Hi tig, I haven't heard of one, but I'll bet there are those who like the PMT, would give it some serious consideration, if they had the mean. Chances are, if one should show, I'll bet it originated in china.

I've never heard of it on a 1917.
If someone has a 1916 or 1917 with it look close because chances are it's a 1918 or later that was changed or damaged or a magic coin with one side replaced.
Most likely a 1946 with a weak 4 that looks like a 1.

I would think that if it were tested and released in 1916 or 1917 I would have heard about it by now, and I haven't. As far as I know, it was discreetly placed on the 1918 obverse...end of story.

Thanks.. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner.. I am moving and it's hard to check up on things...
I will double check that 1916 when I find where I put it...
The week 4's you mentioned.. Does it happen often? I have a couple of coins I am not sure about.. Look at it one way and it is a one .. look another way and it looks like a 0 and still another way and it looks like a 4...
Thank you

It does on 1946 cents.
Maybe someone can explain why it was that way. The mint must have done something goofy that year on the date.
Many look like the 19 is strong but the 46 is weak and the 4 can look like a 1 on some of them especially after some wear.

Ed, you mean looking at the date, with the light coming from different vertical angles, or different horizontal positions? I have never consiidered looking at a coin from more than the existing light angle, which I can't adjust on the one scope, while the other scope lighting is varied for photos. I'll have to try that and see what can be seen.

Dick,
When I search I only use a loupe not a scope so for me I keep light constant and move my loupe or the coin if needed.
