Hope the photo turns out well enough. What can you make of the mint mark. I was able to magnify my screen to 300% to get a better image.

I can't tell for sure, but the obverse seems to have a lot of contact marks. I believe the mintmark took a hit.

Bob, that would be my guess, also. I checked the site, but could find none with that much separation, so I thought I would just hold off, before commenting.

Either a post mint hit or as it was struck/ejected the D got snagged by the die and it did that. The other hits make it seem likely to be a random post mint hit.

Ed, would the relief of the MM be high enough to be caught? I thought it was much lower than the date "relief". Always ready to learn something new.

Dick,

I'm not sure which is higher but I have seen cents where the MM had that look of the die catching it but the date didn't.

I would think the MM could be different based on how hard they punched it.

thanks for the input just struck my eye looking through some coins didnt know if it might amount to any thing. And you are correct the entire coin has a lot of marks.

Ed, I tend toagree, thinking about it. The deeper the penetration, the higher the relief. you can take that any way you want....
