Can't justify paying 6 to 7 hundred dollars for it. Is there any other, reasonablely priced, programs available that will do overlays? Just want to be able to do overlays for mintmarks.

Watch for a later version. Mine is 5.5 and does what I can make it do. So watch ebay for a later version. IMOHO

I know there is a ver. 8.0 out. One of the members has it. I have the 7.0, but have never taken enough tyime to do much with it as yet. "One of these days", as the saying goes.....

I had the same issue with "Photo-shop". The full version is way too costly for me -- and the limited version I got in some hardware purchase does not do everything I needed. I found another product that worked...
I actually use Corel Photo Paint (version 11). It came packaged with Corel Draw (which I don't use) and works fine for retouching photos and doing overlays. Like any such software it takes a little time to learn -- and I probably only use 1/2 the features available. But it was cheap and works great. I just checked eBay and you can get this version of Corel Draw/Photo Paint for less than $100 (way cheaper if used).
I've also used earlier versions of this software (ver 5, 8, etc.) but version 11 has much better features (red-eye removal, cloning) and is much faster and more stable than the earlier versions. Corel also does 'service pack' updates for their products, so if there are major bugs - they usually get fixed.
Here is what I use Corel Photo Paint 11 for...
Cropping (reduce the size of image by trimming away unwanted parts)
Resizing (reduce size of image, shrinking entire image)
rotate images
Red-eye Removal (not for coins, obviously)
Color Tone/Gamma adjustments
Contrast Adjustment
Image sharpening (directional sharpening works best)
Dust/Scratch/Blemish removal
Overlays (one image over another, and then set a transparancy value on the eraser tool to let the image beneath bleed through.
Convert images to B/W
Convert images to "art" -- sketches, oil painting, etc.
Convert images from one format to another (BMP, JPG, GIF, etc.)
For the cost, the software is truly amazing.
