That isn't the old "Model T", I once had!

For anyone with Dish/Cable TV, on the "Speed" channel the Barrett-Jackson car auction is going on right now. Some amazing vehicles. Everything from "original" to restored to resto-mod to modified. Even in this recession or whatever we're in there have been several $100K plus cars.

I'm not a big Mercedes fan, but there's something cool about this classic gullwing SL from the 50s.
This car is so crazy expensive that I'm fine with visiting it in a museum. If you're ever up in N.Cali, check out the Blackhawk auto museum--a lot of great cars of the classic era from Dusenbergs to early Corvette concepts.

Here is a car that I saw on the Barrit-Jackson Auction. Did a search and found these images. The car sold there for $130K.
Another show car that I've always enjoyed through the years:

I wonder what happened to the "V-12"s? Those were some machines! I rode in one to Prescott, and back, with my buddy's mom. It flew, considering the dirt roads that were the style then, '40-41.

You might be surprised to hear there are quite a few present-day V12 cars. Usually they're in high-end luxury models for a smoother ride: BMW, Mercedes, and Jaguar have V12 models. Internal engine work would sure be one scary bill! Then there are the Italian sports cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini with V12s. I think that V12s are used for racing because a shorter stroke can be used--and consequently quicker revs/higher rpm/output.
I've never driven a V12--I bet the sound would be amazing. At least on a Lambo or Ferrari.

I've heard that the more cylinders you have, the smoother the engine runs, all things being equal. A V-12 must be pretty smooth, though I have never driven one.
I also understand that some early cars (Cadillac?) had a V-16 engine. Can you imagine casting an engine block that size?

Another interesting car. Made from three years of Chevys.
