I found this one a few weeks ago. I have not seen it on copper coins. is it a new one?

Notice the extension coming out of the end of the thumb

The top of the book looks interrupted on the pages?

I had that same impression about the book. It is hard for me to check details, som I generally just wait for someone to "point out the details, and see if i can spot them, too. not the best way, but it is all I have left Rolling Eyes

I don't klnow how new it is, or if it is a new variety, (Bob would be able to say. That is what he dooes), but I definitely see the thumb extension,. I saw it before you circlked it. new, or old, it definitely is!

It bears possibility of being a minor doubled die, but I must say these 2009 doubled die reverses are so numerous, I'm not sure anyone will be paying much of any attention to them into the future. While I cannot say for certain where this is going, I can say that its path doesn't look all that good.

Just a bit of a different take on all the doubled dies of on the 2009 Lincoln cents.

While Chuck may be right about these not being many stream, there are more than a few collectors out there who have been obsessed with these doubled dies. Not only has it gotten to a point of collecting one of each different die, but now the trend is collecting the different stages of each. So, you are now multiplying your collection upwards of 300 to 400 just on the 2009 (FY) Lincoln cent alone.

I also noted with interest the HSN offering of these doubled dies. Slabbed without a file number by I believe ANACS, they were selling (???) for $79.99 a pop, a ridiculous price, but that is HSN.

I have also heard from two major dealers if I had any extras in the more interesting of these doubled dies. They were interested in buying what I had.

Only time will tell how enduring these doubled dies will be for the collector. Presently, I have seen a trend where the E-bay sales have dropped off, but there is still spirited bidding going on for the more desirable dies.

I am in the process of looking through a roll of the 2009 LP-4s. If a doubled die is found in this series, it may throw a few more logs on the fire and flame up the collector's interest once again.

As for your coin posted in this thread; I would like to see it or I am sure Bob P can also do the attribution. Also, if it is what we suspect, I am sure John Wexler and Billy Crawford would also like a look at it too.

Thanks
BJ Neff

The LP3's were a dud from my experience. They are very, very minor in my opinion. But I still look. It's just part of the addiction.

Steven: I don't think that is a thumb. It looks more like the index finger to me. But it may be the same die child?
