That would be equivalent to the so-called 1984 doubled die cent. No?

It looks a lot like the 1997P-1DO.001, but it could be a new variety, too. They are very much alike, to my view. Did you check the markers on the site? That will give you a lot of info, to jhelp you decide. BoB???

The coin shown is the 1997P-1DO-001. That's a very nice find. Congrats!

Great find!

The 97 DDO die-1 is not a big variety but it was a dry spell for nice doubled dies (unlike 2006 or 2009) so that 97 DDO had less competition. I don't remember anyone finding hoards of them either.
It's a cool find!

The initial discoverer of this die had close to 100 of them saved up before he reported the variety. I am not sure what happened to his little hoard, he died a number of years back and someone else ended up with them. That and the fact that the authors of the CPG said this was not a doubled die in two of their editions didn't help popularity or value any at all.

The one thing that did help it was the Red Book including it in the cent listings (although the images were wrong for years).

While sortong thru thr four boxes of cents, I put the '94, '95, '97, and all '8x, together for chacking later. the time has come for the separation of the grouyp[, and the search of the '97's, to see if they might have been put back into circulation. Can't lose anything but a little time, and I have lots of that. Wish me luck! BTW, Chuck, is there any indications in the adjacant areas that show the doubling? That qwould sure confirm the red book reasioning. Tghanks,
Dick
