Hi all and thank you for your comments.They changed the design a few months into 1917 supposedly because the right breast was not covered.I also think in a recent Numismatic news edition there were some other factors also,but most say the exposed breast was the reason.I still think this is at least an au50 coin,but I'm not the "expert". Ken, Yes, I think the exposed breast was one of the reasons, but the date being in bold relief, and being silver, it wore very rapidly. So they put a 'bra', on and dug a tranch for the date. It still made it rough. too bad, because it was a nice coin.

That didn't happen until 1925.

No wonder they look like over-sized "buffalo nickels", with the dates all worn off. So i guess the opinion was that "she wear a braa, and the date do what it will, (and did). Thanks SMED,, for the info.
