Has anyone ever used this product or one like it? http://www.celestron.com/c3/images/files/downloads/1239839097_44302manual5lan.pdf

I am living in KC due to a job change and don't have my stereo microscope so I was looking for a cheap alternative. Not as much concerned with the quality of images for taking pictures as I am with the ability to view coins for varieties. I am only getting home every few weeks so I have a lot of time to kill and thinking of getting back into coins again.

So are you staying in Kansas City for good - or at least semi-permanently? If so, we should meet up sometime. I make it up that way at least once every couple of months.

As for your question regarding the microscope, I can't help. My current computer problems keep me from being able to see that site.

So far I am here to stay. But, after working for 3 companies that ended up being sold and another one that downsized due to the economic crash I realize "permanent" has to be interpreted carefully. My 14 year old is finishing up the middle school/Jr High she is in and my son is finishing high school and moving on to college so this summer is the right time for a change. My wife is a nurse so we are hoping finding a job for her will not be extremely difficult.

I would ejoy meeting you at some point if you are in KC. Or if you ever have one of those projects where you would appreciate an extra set of hands for 6-8 hours on a Saturday or Sunday I wouldn't mind helping out. I think the drive to Columbia is about 2 hours but you would know better than me. I am on the Liberty/Kansas City line on I-35.

I ordered the digital scope so I will let everyone know how it works out in case someone else is looking for an inexpensive alternative.

Chuck, that link is the instruction manual, (in several languages), and is set up similar to Adobe readr. I read the whole document, and it tells what the scope can do, and how one needs to work with it. It is simple and user friendly. i might add, that the focus adjusrment on it is somewhat like the QX3/QX5 scopes, a bit touchy, but managable.
Some of the details are:
The power range is 10x-40x. It also has a position that is 150x, based on a 19" monitor. Other than that, it is a simple unit, to use.
Chuck, you mentioed computer problems, I think you refer to the programming, etc, rather than the "messing with the innards". Insiode the box, I am very much at home, but from the keyboard, I usually need a map! If there is anything I can do to help, just say what, and when.

I don't live in Columbia. I live near Springfield. It's a 2.5 hour drive down here. Perhaps if I can find when it's scheduled, we could meet in Carthage for the show in February.

As for 'projects' - you'd have to let me know what you're talking about. Just email me and we can discuss.

rollmeupabe- I have 2 of 'em.There are ok in taking pics, but the zoom part is tricky. I had to elevate the camera to get a decent pic on zoom and the close up are fair. I had to go into the program several times to adjust the color and saturation, etc. to get the proper color and good contrast.
