I found this puppy today. I'm almost positive it's a snow-9. I found it easier to attribute with less magnification, which seems strange to me. Under my microscope I couldn't make out the extra digit in the denticles south west of the 0. But when I took the close up picture of the date and uploaded it I could make it out perfectly clear.

What do you think? Snow-9? FS-01-1908-302 (011.79)?

PS: I found out how to mske my pictures smaller...less resolution. Duh!

Check to see if you also see the top of the "8", in the denticles, about the same displacement as the "0". if so, it is y guess you have the S-9: 1908, 08 denticles.Nice picture!

I think it's different than the 1908 in this thread:

Ed, you are right. It is different. The only one close, is the S-11, and the position of the "08" in the denticles, is actually in the RIM, causing a light distortion in the rim area.

Hmm...the photo of the S-9 in the Snow guide isn't that great, but I do notice some differences, such as the position of the 1 to the denticles and the 9 digit. If you have the Snow guide, take a look at Snow-16, and tell me what you think. The position of the 1 and the 9/9, and the two MPDs closely match your coin. Very Happy

But that's just my opinion--Mr. Snow himself could attributed correctly for a modest fee. Very Happy

If my eyes were like they were when I was a "young Buck", I would be able to do a better job, but being as they are, I'll just go along with the majority. It boils down to " the old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be"!

Thanks guys. I need to get that guide. I thought the 9 looked repunched to the south in the gap of the loop and the tail. Is that what Snow-16 shows...a repunched 9 and 2 misplaced digits in the denticles?

I went back, and took the date to max Zoom-Text, and believe I see what looks like a "possible" 9s, but onlt under the center part of the 9. If this is what you are seeing, you have vision, like I used to have! Does thid fit?

Here's a side-by-side of your coin to what the Snow guide shows. The date position looks very close, as do the MPDs. I'm thinking I also see a 9/9, but it's fainter than the book's pic Confused Die state perhaps--what do you think? Not to get in the habit of posting the Snow guide--just an example. Here's the link to Rick Snow's book.

I agree, it is a match. I only see the remnant in the center on the 9, so i was easily misled. nice work Kurt. The pictures in the guide are a little hard to workwith, but persistance will usually pay off.

Glad the photo was worth it--and these guides are a must for IHC collectors. There are a lot of RPDs from 1900-08--good luck! Very Happy

I just completed my order. I'm very excited to receive it because I have a couple other MPDs that need attributing. Thanks again.

The guides come in two forms. One inlooser=leaf, 3-ring binder, or regular, spiral-bound.
