How do i get rid of the 'space robbing crap"? I can't format the HD, because the computer is not mine to do with, otherwise everything would be expendable. My need is to find out how these things get there in the first place, ans second, how can i get rid of them? I have spent over two hours, deleting them,. one-by-one, and there iis still a jillion of them! Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated! HELP!!!

Dick,
You might want to right clickthe start button, then explore, and go to the folder where they all are. If they are all in a row, highlight the first one, scroll down to the last one and hold down the shift key and highlight the last one. Once they are all highlighted, you can right click and delete them all. If they are not all in a row, keep your finger on the control key, and click each one you want to delete. Once they are all highlighted, again right click and then delete.

Bob.It is the "MY Pictures file. Normally i can go down a list of files, and hold the control, and scroll to the last one , and hit delete, and they are gone. IO acn't get it to highlight the whole block any way I have tyried. I can't delete the "documents and settings, because it is the VA computer. I would go to SOS, and put in the XT program, and delete blocks of files that way, but threre again, I can't do that, because they have remote access files, etyc, foe support, etc. makes for a tough situation. I wouldn't care too much, but it is running out of space, (I was warned that it only has 197 MB of free space). 99% of the "My Pictures" are photos. I would move them to a CD, but so far, can't control what goes, except one-by-one. Any ideas?

If there's more unwanted ones than wanted ones...
Make some folders then keep your finger on the control key, and click each one you want to keep and cut them then paste them into the new folders. Then delete everything that's left over.
That also gets the keepers organized in the new folders.

Ed, Thanks for your time, and info, but I cheated! I went to ULead camera application, and pulled up the folders, with the preview, so I couuld see what it ciontained, then deleted it. I just finished. I have been hiours on it. i don't know how it happens, but I'll be checking every now and then, to see if there are any new ones, and at the same time will know what I was doing, to cause it. It is rtime-comsuming, and frustrating, as well, because it takes yp so much space on the HD. I think I am going to keep a CD in the drive, to receive all phoros. Thanks to you, and Bob, for your help. It helped save my day!
BTW, in that ULead application, it has a place where one can make new folders, . The only folder I am about to empty, right now, is the recycling bin! You guys have a good night, and I'll try to leave well enough alone, for the rest of today, at least!
G'Nite all!
Dick

Most of the time the "copy of" images happen when you mean to click but instead you click and drag a little. It will copy the images selected to the same folder. When you go to open a picture to click on it's icon, DON'T drag the mouse too.

Hi Chuck, Hope you are feeling much better, again!
I'll keep that in mind, and see if it is my problem. i do move a lot when making any selections. I just checked my pictures, and no copys of XXXX yet.
Now i have to get hold of STA=TECH, and tell them that I am running out of space on my HD (120GB). It is not mine to do with. It belongs to the VA. I AM going to have a Blank CD in the drive to receive all the photo images I take. that in itself will help. Thanks for the info, and take care of yourself. We miss you!
Bob, It may take a little longerr to get the coins readt for you. I have come down with bronchitis, and have stopped doing much of anything. The computers are still down. If it isn't one thing, it is another! Don't open this, you might get sick, too

Thanks for all the help, and suggestions. So farr things are running normally, or close to it. I am a firm believer in "Theraflu" medication. When my thrioat feels a bit dry, I tke that, and a good coating of vicks vaporub, and go to bed. It will make you sweat, but that is the idea. An artificial fever is controlable, and is good for you. the ones that are NOT induced , are the bad ones. The fever, in any case tends to kill the "bugs", and give you a chance to recover quickly. I have been "disgustingly healthy", all my life, other than the childhood deseases, and i had all of them, too. otherwise, I have never had any problem with being "down, and out". i am a "troubkle-shooter', and live my life the same way. Preventative maintenance is the best thing, wether it deals with ones health, or machinery.
