No doubt some of you felt the earthquake. It was first reported as 6.9, but later upgraded to 7.2. I felt it here, and knew it had to be pretty close, or pretty big, if it was a long way off. The epicenter is about 150 miles SE of here. i know the area where it is, and there will be subsatancial damage there. it ia a small state-border crossing in a small town called San Luis Rio Colorado. It is on the main E-W hiway from Baja Calif. to Sonora, going East. I have been thru that area, many times, over the last 55 years, due to having to go that way to visit family, in the state of Sinaloa, Mex. This was while living in the San Diego area.

The epa-center I heard was in Mexi-Cali Mexico. My Daughter was in LA and she was asked if she felt the earthquake. The shut down the rides for a time in Disneyland.

Right, the name of the place is guadalupe Victoria. It was not there, when I was making the trips, years ago.. it is a few miles, (kilometers ) West of San Luis, rio colorado. It is on the road that goes to San Fwelipe, BCFA, on the gulf.

My window blinds were moving.
I saw it and said "it can't be a quake here"

Hi Ed, if it had been on tyhe San Andreas fault, and that strong, we would have felt it much stronger, as we sit right on the fault, where it tuns thru our areaCajon Pass. We live right in the mouth of the pass. The same strength, and in our area would mean substantial damage.
We are lookig for snow at 4000', duriong the night, and another sweep coming in behind it. It is spring, and my citrus trees are in full bloom. I might have to put some tarps ober them, to keep from losing the blooms. That is the problem, here in this location. If the wiond doesn't blow them to China, the cold freezes tjhe fruit, and we end up with tyrees, but nothing but leaves. I dion't eat leaves.

just got off the usga website
for zip code 92376 only 57 responses
for zip code 92377 only 19 responses
is this normal for earthquake reporting
It would seem that something this big and felt as far away as memphis tn. would get alot more responses to better help map the effects of an event.
My prayers also go out to those that lost family
Mike

Our 16 year old granddaughter was visiting her father in El Centro...house a mess...she had a pretty good bump on over her left eye and they took her to the hospital...she's ok...scared like the rest of them! Her pics are on her Facebook page. Looks like the house and garage were pretty much history. And the news said there was no reports of damage...lol.

Tyhe info i have from Channel 34, SIN Spanish language network, says there were two dead, and close to 100 injured, in various degrees. Not as extensive damage as was expected.
Mike, the reason there would be different reasponses for the two zips, is that they lie on two different faults, which run BW/SE, and the several known faults are separated by a few mikles. I am on the San andreas fault, and felt about a 3.0 quake. In The LA area, they are well removed from the gault line that I am on, and the whole southern part of CA is all part of the whole land mass that is moving NW. This includes the Baja CA pininsula, and all the state, that runs to the bay area. It has been said, that this landmass will eventually be adjacient to Anchorage, AK.
Tjhe fakult that is involved, is the Laguna Salada, (salt lake). Not the one in Utah.
