Depends on the year.

For modern stuff my vote is for uncurculated mint sets.

I have always gone for the whole she=bang: Silver proof, and silber mint sets. I don't have that many, but did manage to go back to '60. then when they started in with the silver proof, and int sets, and, the silver quarters, I went for "broke". That is why I also like, and but the ASE's. If one has to use the sets for food, then the silver will give you a good start.

I usually get several of each. You never know what will be hot.For instance back in 2001,I got 15 each of the proof and silver proof sets directly from the mint for around $800 -900.Turned out the 2001s Sac $ is going for about $75 -$100 or more each Very Happy Shocked depending on the grade.I got 30 of them total, not to mention the cents, nicks, dimes and halves and the state quarters that are in the sets.I wish I had gotten as many 1999 sets Sad .Pretty nice profit when I decide to sell them.

I am a fan of the silver proofs as well Very Happy , but I have also been trying to put together a set of mint sets. I have not even considered the regular proofs though Rolling Eyes

I bought a bunch of the 1999 proofs/silver proofs/mint sets and they appreciated very well. Then I got the 2000 bunch and they were duds. So I stopped there.
