I am used to seeing doubled profiles on my Capped Bust Halfs, but don't see this too often on large coppers. I think this one may have been recolored, but the price was right and I love the die cracks and doubled profile.

Edited to add, the coin has a coating of mineral oil as I am soaking this one for a while

I love a coin with cracks, but I have never seen, other than here, one. Every coin that I see, with a crack, goes into the stash box.. (If I ever get short on cash, i can always gety enoufh to but a cup of coffee!

Coop, I am very sorry about that. I'll use my cotton-lined rubber gloves One must avoid the shards, at all cost.
This is another one for my "stash"!
Now the long crack that runs all around the outer area, THAT is a crack I would loce to find. my question, as before, is how long must the die have lasted, before splitting completely, and falling away, (if there is enough room for that to happen)?. My thought, is that it can't, due to the die anchor, and maybe the lower extension ,(if any), of the collar die, that would also tend to support the piece that is, or would be loose. If it were the hammer die, it would definitely fall, once the remaining bits of metal that were holding the portion, that is 'giving away".
