On certain years like the 1997-P I like to look at them in a solid roll because some smaller things are easier to see when I'm looking at the same pick up point throughout a solid roll.

I also like to keep the nicest coins in solid rolls if they're worth keeping. They also come in handy if you see a new variety that you might have missed and want to double check. It's a lot easier than going through a bag again. I guess if you're not keeping the coins sorting by year isn't worth the effort.

Well, sorting the rejects by year wouldn't be worth the effort, but it's always worth the effort of sorting them by year BEFORE looking through them for the many reasons stated before.
