I'm not sure about this one. It has no comparison to the ones at http://www.coppercoins.com/diesearch.php
In the 1st pic. a line(for lack of a better word) in the top part of the "D"
In both the 1st & 2nd pic there is, what looks like a 2nd "d" on the S.W., inside and on the E of the "D"
Do I need my glasses changed

I know this post was quite awhile ago, but thought to add a supporting photo and occurrence (pardon spelling)
I had seen this effect before, I found the pics and surprised to see it was an 83D also.

To me the east edge looks like zinc showing through the plating.
A tiny split shows on the lower serif/corner of the D.

Yes I agree, and in the upper left inner corner, it looks like the plating was streched there also. Interesting how it follows the contour of the "D" after being rotated slightly.
