Hi all!
THis is my first post here. I have to thank Bob for allowing me to join. I hope I can contribute something to the forum!
I recently went through some rolls of BU lincolns and found this (I need to upgrade my camera, so sorry about the sub-par pics):

There is a faint s shaped curve above the main S and that blob that could be the serif of a secondary punch....
I am curious what you all think!
THANKS!

welcome aboard!
I only see what looks like a possible RPM with a die chip, along for the ride, in the lower loop. I don't see the shadow, but my vision is not perfect, so wait for the ones with the real info! LOL

I just can't see it well enough to make any conclusions. The 'blob' is not a secondary mintmark serif though. Can you get a close-up of the date and mintmark area only?

I don't think there's anything there. The blob in the lower part of the mintmark is normal on all 1969 and 1970 San Francisco cents.

Thanks everyone!
I see what you mean about the blob being common, was it some kind of defective punch that the mint was using?

Not 'defective' so much as just part of the base of the letter that showed when the letter was punched too deeply into the die. If you've ever worked with leather and punched letters into leather you'll recognize what I'm talking about if you've ever punched a letter too deeply into leather and the outline of the punch shows on the finished piece.
