Hi, I'm Dottir, middle aged woman from SE BC, Canada, fairly new to coins and am getting very hooked on US and Canadian "cents" especially. We get a lot of Lincolns and other US coin and paper money up here. Even get some Wheaties sometimes!!! I don't know if it's unpatriotic of me to mention that for some reason I am more interested and hooked by Lincoln cents than I am by our own Canadian cents, but I am!

For starters, thank you Chuck for activating my account! This place is amazing and you must have your hands and time full with this website and the rest of your life to do too Wink

My avatar I chose because I was born in 1954, which is a good year for collectible coins and paper money in Canada with the shoulder folds and no shoulder folds varieties, and Devil's Face paper notes Cool None of which I own as yet. Finding 1954 coins in circulation is pretty rare I think.

I've spotted some familiar names in here, from the CC forum, where I'm registered as Dottir there too.

Well, thats all for now and I hope I can contribute some positives to the forum as a member.

Thanks again for having me!!!!

Dottir

Welcome aboard, Dottir! you are in good hands!
No, it is not "un-patriotic" to prefer another countries coinage to your own. I have a lot of your Canadian coinage, and am deeply involved in die-tracking in the "Vickys".

Hey, thanks for the BIG welcome Coop Cool

And thanks for the welcome from you too Richard. I haven't progressed to Vickies as yet but imagine I'll get there one day if I keep on with this Very Happy

I like Canadian coins. I think it's just easier to find lots of information and sources for US ones online, plus it seems the US seems to have a lot more varieties and images of them to view.

The forums are quite helpful, warm & friendly people fun communities and I really like all of that too Smile

Dottir, I wouldn't wait too long to get started.
They only minted 10 million of them, you know! Laughing

Then I'd better not pass up any opportunities to own one or some Vicky's that come my way. If only about 10 million were made then they're likely covetted and well out of my budget though, I'd guess Very Happy Being a newbie, I don't know much about any of the older coins yet but will learn as I go.

By the way, I probably have a few coins to post about if I EVER get my computer issues sorted out and get it to properly install my scanner/printer again!!! I already have a few dollars worth of Lincolns here, including about 7 Wheaties so far. One a 1920 that I'm VERTY anxious to scan and get a good look at. I think it has almost a full extra 2 and maybe 0 in the date but can't see it with my bad eyes and small weak magnifying glass.

I saw nothing in the 1920's listed for DD's in this site for this year though. That would be so cool if I actually have one. Cross your fingers for me. It would be a blast to learn I have a new coin to add to your site Smile

Oh my gawd. You people here and in the other forum really want to get me hooked Laughing I can't believe how kind people are being (well, yes I can because the majority of human beings are still good hearted!!!!)

I've had a few people (3?) contact me from CC forum wanting to send me things, coin flips? etc little care packages to get me started! and someone else just contacted me wanting to send me a 1943 Steelie ... I said yes Smile

I've also had people contact me offering me coins to buy, which I can't do at the moment. Maybe soon I'll be able to trade something, or I'll come up with a few dollars to spare for some coins, then I'll post offering givens, a trade, or wanting to buy. In fact I'm thinking of stating that in my signature over at CC. I hate saying no to people Laughing

I will send you an email Chuck Smile

By the way, am still working on getting decent scans or images of that 1920. Its worn, but then its been around for 90 years! But I still think it's a DD and not MD (I may be wrong) In any case, it's so worn that even if a big DD I'm sure it wouldn't be worth a whole lot ... but it would be a 1920 DD if thats indeed what it is. I saw none in your listings.

I posted images of it in CC already but want better ones for here. Great to have got my scanner operational again. All I had to do was enable a USB thing in HD settings. DUH Very Happy

Hi Dottir,

I think the next thing you need is good magnifier.

Sometimes what looks like a big great thing without one becomes obvious as something else with enough magnification. On the other hand sometimes what you did not notice at all without enough magnification is a very neat variety.

Welcome aboard! If you want to get hooked on varieties you're in the right place for it Smile

Thanks for the nice welcome, Ed. I know I've come to the right place/s here and the other. You all are very welcoming and make a new person feel good and right at home. And you're definately right about needing good magnification. I'm working on that, trying to find a suitable loupe or something. This small town is slim pickin's for finding anything so far. I bought a hand held from a Pharmacy in the end, and returned it as useless - plastic! and was lousy viewing anything let alone small details. I'll score something eventually Wink

I'm totally enjoying myself with this new interest which I don't think I'll lose. I enjoy dates but am also really enjoying looking for and finding varieties and errors in my searching. I use the date guide in here a lot! Amazing resource!!! Its awesome feeling old and worn out and finding a new interest to get excited and have fun with, and the people are a lot of fun. Whats not to get hooked on? Cool now my scanner is functional again I can participate again ...

Hi folks. I know I'm new here and haven't had a chance to post or get to know people in here much as yet, but I just want to mention that possibly (probably) from tomorrow (Monday) I may be delayed in responding to any posts or PM's, emails etc. for some while. I will be at home the whole time but may be very delayed in responding to people. I don't want anyone to feel I'm ignoring posts or communications in case I'm very slow to get back to you, which I will do as soon as I possibly can, so please know this Wink

Sorry I haven't yet had some wonderful new find to share with you all yet, but I'm working on that, never passing up a chance for pennies or rolls of them to search! I'm determined to find something impressive for you all Laughing

Take care,

Dottir

Thanks Ken Wink Seems a good and friendly place. I'm pretty impressed with the forum, warm & friendly people, and the site on the whole. I expect I'll learn a lot and now communications won't be slowed down after all, barring more computer issues (sigh) that is, I can participate and respond quickly.

Smile
