Hey guys.
It has been a long time since I have posted in this forum, but plan to once again as I now have the time to get back to variety collecting!
In any case, I bought this 1943 Lincoln cent from teletrade today, which is not labeled as being 1DO-001, but the pictures make it clear that the coin is that variety. Got it for a solid $8. The coin is graded by NCS as genuine, with UNC details, but with environmental damage. What do you guys think?

I could swallow my tongue...
That coin is worth at least $200, possibly double that! Very nice haul!

Coop, things are great. Glad to see that you're still around.
Chuck, wow I didn't realize it would be worth that much. I was a bit worried about how the environmental damage would affect the price of the coin. The environmental damage doesn't seem to affect the variety or the coin in any significant manner, so that is good.

I've wondered the same. I can't see the environmental damage. Maybe when I get the coin it will be a bit more obvious.

Gabe,
Great to see you here again. What a great deal for that 1943 DDO. Many congrats, and welcome back!

Nice score on that 43!
I don't see anything wrong with it.
I think if NCS feels they conserved it and it's still market acceptable they don't note anything on the holder so this ones a puzzle.
Also sort of interesting, if the owner/consignor didn't know it was the DDO they wouldn't have paid NCS to conserve it but then they sold it without listing the variety.
In any case you got a bargain on it!

After looking at the pictures, it seems like the coin was restored on the reverse around the area of ONE CENT.
But like eagames just said, the person who had this coin sent for restoration had to know of the variety, because it would make no sense to restore the coin without it. After having the coin restored, the coin was slabbed without the variety designation and listed on teletrade without the variety listing.
Very interesting.

So I got the coin today.
In hand, you can clearly see the white crust that has formed around the words ONE CENT on the reverse. Kinda hard to tell from the pictures...
However, the obverse is completely clean and the doubled die shows without a problem.

I think there's a way to remove that white crust without damaging the coin, but I cannot remember what it was that did it.
