Coop,
I made sure that the pics were the same size: w x h and ppi... I also took the pics at the same distance from the lense... If you really think the pics are different sizes I can retake them just incase I messed up...
I will take a look at some 77s and 79s for comparison and see what I come up with... Thanks everyone!!!

Coop is correct... I looked at the pics again and the 9s look different... I will have to redo them to make sure I get it correct... Wish I was a photographer... LOL... Back to the beginning... LOL!!!

Best way to size your images is to:
1. Set a horizontal line across the tops of the date. Rotate image to make sure the line is straight. (Marquee tool on photoshop.)
2. Crop them around the two corners of the date's outside edges. (It doesn't matter what height it is, just width.)
3. Make the images the same width. Then you have the images the same width. Then you can compare the mint marks.

Here is an example to prove a different point. But note how to align them in the top two images. This gives you the formula to make the outside date images the same with and how the rest of the date and mint mark will be same size.

I retook the pics... I deleted the first set... This time I made sure that all of the pics were exactly the same size... w x h x pixels... I shifted the overlays to the right to make it easiear to see the size differences... I also checked some 77s and 79s but did not see any differences in MM sizes like this!!!

They look normal sized to me. Die wear makes devices larger. Circulation wear flattens devices. Punching the mint marks can vary in depth. But I see nothing interesting here.

An easy way to accomplish the task is use a flatbed scanner.

Place both coins together on a flatbed scanner.
Scan both coins at the same time as a single image.
Resize the image as desired. Be sure to maintain aspect ratio.
Crop the area of interest on both coins from the original scan and save the cropped images as two different files.
