FINALLY expecting our first really significant snowfall in over six years here. We've had our 5 inchers, our 8 inchers, etc...but a significant event (for me anyway) is over a foot. Our last experience like this was in December 2002 where we got 14 inches.

Expecting rain and freezing rain to change to sleet and snow around sunrise tomorrow, then to all snow by 11AM. Expecting rates of 2-4 inches per hour for four to six hours which could bring snow totals in the area upwards from 15 inches!!

Last time we saw something like this develop was in March of 1999 where they forecast 6-8 inches and we ended up with 27!!

Exciting times here at coppercoins central!!

Chuck - While you anticipate snow, Jeanie and I have enjoyed weather in the mid 70's. Us older folks just cannot take those colder temperatures or the thought of shoveling snow to get to the places that are a must (hospital, grocery store, video store, pharmacies, coin shops, etc.).

By the way Chuck, I do thank you for your help at the 2011 FUN show, I do appreciate it. Chuck Daughtrey is one of the few experts who does lend his time in helping me attribute error and variety coins at these shows and we do owe him thanks for his services.

Well this is a FIRST...

All Springfield area schools are officially closed for tomorrow.

This is the first time in city history that the schools have ever been canceled based on a forecast. It's currently 38 degrees and misting outside. Everything is clear...no ice, no snow. This is just freaky.

Michael and I prepared - we brought about a rick of firewood into the garage, got the flashlights out, prepped the candles, got the drinking water ready. It's a lot like prepping for a hurricane, except you have to consider the cold.

Expecting wind gusts over 40MPH and snow at 4 inches/hour tomorrow. They say between 10AM and 5PM to expect solid whiteout conditions with less than 100 foot visibility. That'll be really cool! Dangerous, but cool.

I'll take photos. ;O)

BTW, thanks for the comments BJ...I'm glad to help - any time.

Darn-it! I can still see out my windows!!!

Actually we only got 10 inches overall, but less than 60 miles from here there's 21 inches on the ground. I-44 Westbound is closed - first time ever. Schools are all closed for tomorrow. In fact, most businesses in the area are closed. I spent the day in here doing what I do every day - working.

It's still snowing, but that should taper to flurries within a couple of hours and we'll start digging out in the morning.

We are at around 14 inches on the ground so far and getting
2-3 inches an hour. They have closed I-70 from Kansas City, Mo
to St. Louis. Thats a long stretch of highway. The worst part is the wind chill of 40 mph, starting to get below zero with the temperature. This calls for a real nice day off of work with the family tomorrow.

Yes, I love the snow!
It is that freezing cold that comes afterwards, that I don't like!

We ended up with around 2 feet of snow here and of course this morning the temp is around -7 below zero. That is without the wind.

We got 20 inches here in Chicago from 6 pm Tuesday night thru 2 pm Wednesday . Some of us on the block had 6 foot snow drifts in the driveways. I spent 6 hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 3 pm with the snow blower; a few of us were plowing out all our driveways and sidewalks. It was crazy. As bad as 1967. I took some pics and will post when I can.
