Going through some slabs I have this morning and came across this one.ANACS is primarily an error coin designator I believe. Why wouldn't whomever submitted this coin had it designated? It looks to be a very early die state as the die crack above the eye and on the forehead into the field is just beginning as pictured on this site. The one on the reverse from the O in one has not started yet.I know my closeups are terrible. Also has what appears to be some doubling on the 43 especially.Has a top end of the 3 between the top curve as if slanted slightly.Thoughts?

I can't see anything in the images. They may have just submitted the coin as a high grade coin and didn't mention the variety?

ANACS is primarily a coin grader.
If someone submits a coin for the normal grading fee they grade it.

If you submit and pay for attribution then they attribute it and grade it.

You can also submit for verification (cheaper than attribution) and you tell them the variety. If they agree they put it on the label but if you're wrong they do not label it.

Most TPGs don't call you and say "it's a variety why not pay for attribution" because if they did that then they would be looking at every coin to see what variety it was if any and doing it for free.

So:

1)That coin was either submitted just for grading.
2)Or it was submitted for attribution and they saw nothing to attribute.
3)Or it was submitted for verification and they didn't agree with it being the variety it was submitted as.

I tried another pic.Hi Ed,My guess would be,just submitted for grading.I know you have to ask for attribution and is extra $ depending on if you want them to figure out what it is or if you give them the designation.I have submitted several coins for this both ways.
