Since this is the beginning of a new year, I posted a couple of questions in the chat room. I thought it might result in some idle conversation out there amongst the regulars and some visitors.

The questions are: 1. What are your numismatic goals this year, considering the state of the economy. What kinds of things are you buying or selling. And 2: Are prices on certain denominations and/ or grades at shows or auctions starting to soften and turn into a buyers market... Please excuse my spelling out there, I did not review carefully and could not correct my mistakes.

If anyone has any other questions to pose to the group, feel free..

Happy New Year everyone!

I used to check the chat room, after I first joined, and saw it there. I have never seen anyone there. Most, if not all is taken care of in the different areas. I might add, that the thread gets "hi-jacked" at times, and I am as guilty as anyone, if not mostof the time! I do try to keep it where it might be "remotely" related..... I think you will find this to be true, for the most part. It isn't like some forums, where all they do is argue, and insult. or as another one, The silence is deafening! You are in one of the bes, all considered of any forums, and where you are after "Abe", it is the best.

In answer to your first, live long enough to finish filling the folders, scattered all over my desk. I only buy. The second: I have never attended a show, and seldom use auctions. Main reason, I have found that, in the long run, it is cheaaper to BIN, Buy it now, and KNOW how much it is coing to cost, rather than hope I might be the top bidder. Too many "shills in the business.
Dick

Prices are lower than in the past, the question is if they get lower or recover.

I think it will take a while before a recovery.

I sure would like to see the prices drop, even more! I used to get rolls of IHC for $79.00. Now the same number of coins cost over a thousand, and they are just "Run of the mill" coins. No Keys, or even semi-keys.

I was just there for a while and this last time I hit "Reload", it went blank on me. I guess this is as good as a chat room.

The chat room was developed back in the early days of coppercoins.com - it was an attempt to basically emulate what was on eBay, because a lot of the first generation chatters there had come from eBay.

Now that we have the forum, it is a lot less invasive of one's time to check messages here and respond to them as they are posted, rather than having to sit in a chat room hitting reload waiting for something to be posted - basically, this is a lot more efficient, thus when the new version of coppercoins comes out, the chat room will be dropped.

I agree, I like this format. I kinda figured that was what the "Weather" forum was set-up to do but I don't think many people use that either. There are plenty of topics to look through though.

Jon, as you linger, and/or lurk, you will find that the "weather" is full of interesting things. Not all related to coins....
Some are very sad, and some are very funny, but we all, (speaking for "old Watashi", enjoy going there.

I had forgot there was a chat room.
I guess if someone wants to use it you need to sort of set a date and get people to meet there.

I have tried that - it rarely works. I can't seem to get more than two or three people there any more. before the days of the forum, we used to have 10-20 there at one time. Enough that sometimes the chat was hard to keep up with.

This forum really is ideal for most people I would think. You can check in when you want and talk about whatever you feel like. Or just see what others have to say. I like to look at others finds and varieties and am learning a lot from the posters here. Even if I don't respond to a post, I still enjoy them.

Jon, you will find this forum is much more "liberal", than many others. Here we "opine", ans others do the same. Some time we do not all agree on the details, but we agree to disagree, and it stays friendly, and educational. i can't say the same for all forums, i have been a member of.
Chuck has provided us with a good forum, and also very educational. There is no other like it, and while I have been a member only a few years, I am very grateful that it is here. It has never been "quiet", for more than a couple days, and there are many who "lurk', and do not comment often. Unfortunately, there is at least one who seems to never have enough, time, and space" to say all he wants to say. Please overlook him. Rolling Eyes
