It appears to be machine doubling. Check the devices that were also pushed the same direction as the mint mark.

Coop, thanks for looking. Most of the other devices don't appear to have MD, I took some time and checked everything. There was one jagged side of the "E" in "AMERICA", but nothing else easy to see.
What I did find, is very interesting, to me that is. I think I have read Chuck say that you can have multiple MD "layers" ? for lack of better word.
So I bet that is what this is.
The tripled?quadripled effect shows on the bottom of all flat letters in "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

This shot shows the E above the MM, a little MD maybe.

What I was referring to is the mark on the cross member on the first image. You can see under the mint mark/this cross member the same machine doubling damage. Die movement can goin is several directions as the die bounce during the strike with the looseness of the dies. Anything happens.

Yes I see what you are saying, thanks. Do you think the other variable layer effect is also MD?

If it copies the devices in design, then yes. Die movement can touch just one area or most areas. It just depends on how loose the machine has become. If it were a RPM/doubled die the device would be rounded. The flat shelf like doubling is actually damage because of the movement of the dies.

Thanks, Coop, in the future Im going to take more time to verify against known lists like Chuck has here, of course this is silver, but don't want to keep coming back with MD.

The nice thing about silver is that if it is damaged, sell it. I've been dumping mine as I go. As soon as I find a buyer, it's gone. I've gone from collector to dealer now. If I see something nice, I buy to resell if the price is right.

The only problem is I already unloaded every scrap I had. I guess that's why it keeps going up. I thought $30 was the top.

Phil, I think that the multiple lines you see in the same area, and orientation may also be a side effect of what Coop says, but in a different sense. I mean, that when something is 'caught between two moving objects, and IS ALSO MOVING, IYSELF, it tends to increase the speen of the vibrations., which can give the same effect, IMHO. I agree, it is MD, and it could also be call ed ejection doubling, altho I don't see the 'tearing effect that is normal with "ejection Doubling. Hope this doesn't confuse the issue.
Depending on the other criteria, if it is silver, and not a normal "keeper, start another bag.

When you look toooooooooooooo close then nothing seems like something. Try placing a tooth pick over a coin you focus on. It looks like a pencil over the coin. To close is not a good thing. If you can see it at 10X, then it is not minor.

Coop
Someone else gave me near the same advise, guess I start to stray sometimes.
Can you believe the price of silver? I used to get eagles for $16, and rounds for $14.
And I am still long, so since the begining of my "career", I have only sold a handful of items. I had the feeling back when spot was $14 that it would make it to $25, it did. Then I thought $28, yep.
At $30, I began to think it could get to $50 again.
I just read a few predictions of higher than that, not your every day end of the world seers either.
So this Franklin joins a host of others in the "junk" status group.

I have always said silver will, one day be worth a lot more that it has ever been in the past.
That said, the way it is being used in technology, today, will make it very scarce, and valuable.
Remember whin it was worth almost nothing? Then, the ones who had an idea about it, beganngoing around to the pghoto shops, and collecting all the waste materials, from the developing of the film. MUCH silver there. But then it was only used for coinage, and jewelery, etc. Now,in industry, very high demand, and going up. China, and India are two of the reasons for the reise in price. Brazil is not that far behind.
I prospected for gold when it was $35/oz. Now look at it. And it was not that long ago.
