How many years was this obverse used for Dimes. my book has only 1901, however the revers has a date ending in "0". The coin is an error "Rotated Reverse"

I think 1858 to 1901.

Yep, 1858-1901.

If you're saying it's a rotated reverse because it has coin rotation, all Vickie dimes were minted with coin rotation. Medal rotation didn't start until 1908 for silver issues.

Thanks for the information to both of you, the book I was looking at starts with the 1901 issues of world coins.

I know little about any coins and even less about Canadain. Is the reverse on pre 1908 Canadain when fliped North / South in the upright position (like US Coins) or is the East West flip needed to get an upright position.

Thanks

To use your cardinal direction example, N/S is coin rotation and E/W is medal rotation.

I've also seen 'turn' and 'flip' used in place of 'rotation'.

If you plan to work with Canadian coins, I suggest purchasing one of the standard books, Charlton or Haxby. Both come out annually and both have as much info on Canuck round metal discs as the Redbook does on US coins.

Jim, (Haxby), has a new Canadian coinage Catalog, coming out in the near future. He is working on it, at this time.
Re the way the OBV/REV is on th coins, it is mostly "Medal, ie UP/UP, as opposed to our "COINAGE, UP/DOWN. You rotate the medal and flip the coin.
Haxby is also working on another "pet project", 298, which several of us are also involved, with his help, and several others, as well. It cannot be done witout a lot of help. Needless to say, it will be years, before there is that much available information on the 1859-N9's, as on the rest.

I am not much into Canadian, Thanks for clearing up the "Rotation" change for silver coins in 1908. I plan to stay with US Copper for now.
