Japan Killer Quake
Check out this Nova Special about the Japan Earthquake. There are some great shots of the ground opening up and Liquefaction. Remember that big trawler boat that flip on its side and slid under an overpass. I’ve seen that many times, but this time I noticed there were people hanging on the side of the boat!!
If you miss it on PBS – check it out on this web link

Dick, doesnt the san andreas go thru the pass there just north of you?
We live a few miles from the elsinore fault line, on the dry side, if the coast line ever slips under the ocean.
I have heard that they think (hope) the fault will rupture somewhere north of us in the desert, but we will still be having a time of it.

Phil, tha San Andreas Faulf", is more od a whole slew of fault lines. If they all wiggled at the same time, just a little bit, the dust cloud would be like a volcanic eruption, mostly dust, rather than ash!
Just about everything west of the Colorado river, is included in the faults listing/
From what has been said, at one time or another, La Paz, Baja Calif., Mexico, will one day be facing the SF bay area.

Dick,
Yeah Ive looked at a lot of fault maps for our area, you are right.
It's interesting to think how the plates could move in time and cause new land formations.
Some of the historical info the USGS has is interesting also, like they tell you the last time a fault ruptured, and the type of fault (slip or dip), and Ive tracked the elsinore fault line to a point where it crosses under the 15 freeway down around Pechanga, funny they would make that gamble.
I have been doing tons of stuff here, wish I could get back to examining Lincolns and so forth, glad my password still works.
It still amazes me that we can have comments and viewpoints from the likes of Chuck, John Wexler, Mike Diamond, BJ, and too many others yourself included.
Phil

Phil, Thank you for those kind words. I am just one of the guys, and I am honored to be included with those guys!
There are places where there is no distinction among each other, regardles of "Race, Color, or Creed", and this is one of the few.
This guy says it all:
Mark Kania, CRNA
"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a
blank check made payable to 'The United States of
America', for an amount of 'up to and including my
life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people
in this country who no longer understand it."
