Hi all,This coin is slightly MAD and has what may possibly be called cuds around portions of the rim area.Would they be called "cuds"? Thank you,Ken

Mini-Cuds?
I'm curious also but would have to guess that they meet the criteria of a cud?

Hello Jon,I'm guessing it is metal overflow from the mis-aligned dies and I am not sure if this qualifies as a "cud" .This is the basis of my post.Hope someone more qualified(than us)on this topic chimes in.Thank you for your response.

I was thinking it might be a fake.. The rim area looks like it has had two halves put together.
What does the edge look like, dead-on?

Thanks for the links Gary.Dick,Definitely not a fake coin.Rim looks as it should.Still baffled how this formed though. As I stated before, maybe the mis-aligned die has something to do with it.

You are welcome, Ken.
One of the comments in the links probably had it correct. The cause is probably just mishandling of the die which caused some nicks to form at the rim of the die. Hence the cuds that form along the rim of the coin. These rim cuds are actually somewhat common in certain dates.
