What a story, looks like the coins were missing edge letter dollar coins (the later issues). I wonder who the Cal dealer is that was mentioned.

Doing the math it seems like this mint police dude would have had to be stealing thousands of coins.

They're going after him for tax evasion too...!!

I have to wonder if they're going after the dealer for receiving stolen property. He had to know where those errors were coming from.

I agree, and as a receipient of "stolen goods", is an assessory to the fact, as well as after the fact, among other charges pending.

I don't have an inkling of who the dealer is/was, but, whoever it is, should pay, just the same as the "police/Security guard" will.

Presidential Dollars missing edge lettering struck a Philly - will they now be subject to confiscation?

So they are not errors. He took them prior to the edge lettering process. I don't know which issue is in question though.

Then he put $2.4MM in his credit union account. This guy must be a complete idiot. I hope the dealer turned him in. He apparently paid the seller for the coins.

If he took the coins prior to the edge-lettering run, then it must be like having a slew of coins minted in Denver, but wothout the "D" MM.
Or,
the coins must not have any date, or other info.

I don't like coins with the date on the edge.
Aquit the guy, for getting rid of the waste.

Actually, if there is no edge lettering, then they are not even coins, yet. That would make them subject to confiscation, IMHO.

Lets pray that the feds don't spend millions in court fighting over the coins like 1933 double eagles. We can't afford it!

I doubt they can confiscate anything other than the inventory or what can be easily traced since it's possible some are real errors.
On the 1933 double eagles I think their case was based on that none could have got out. I'd say that was stretch since someone that studied mint records showed that the mints inventory in 1933 did drop by $200 face (20 double eagles) with no explanation but the jury went along with the argument that "none were shipped out".

I'm a little late in weighing in on this..... but I've had bad expieriences with mailing coins to New Jersey (the State this guy was from) - they went missing.

I researched this and found there are shipping companies that cater to dealers of high price items like coins, gold, diamonds, ect. They charge one set of shipping rates for all states expect New Jersey, and then special higher shipping rates going to New Jersey. That should tell you something.
