I'm not sure what's going on here, have a look at ebay #3960349134 . The surprising part is the number of different bidders after this one. Are they seeing something that I don't?

Small photos, it's a 1955, I figure some people are mistaken in seeing the "D/D" and think that means "doubled die" - I have seen a number of novices abbreviate it that way...and in fact remember seeing the same in Coin World back in 1984 when the doubled dies started surfacing, people were selling them as "1984D/D" - I was looking at the D for something strange.

Please post a link next time -- there are some of us who do not use epay and a link would make things so much easier.

17 bids from 6 bidders... 10 from one, 3 from another, all 13 trying to inch up and find what the high bidder's high is. Looks to me like there's 3 people with a clue as to what the coin is worth (I certainly do not), lanlv22, rocker7 and fordmachines.

What's it really worth?

On the link...here..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3960349134

As for the coin's value...Well, let's see.

1955D RPM#9, WRPM-013, 1959D-1MM-009. I have it listed at $4 in GEM. Brian Allen listed it for $3.35 in BU back in 1999. CONECA listed it for $3 in BU back in 1997.

ANACS has slabbed 17 examples as of last Spring - that's more than most different RPMs of the time, so it would be considered more common in a slab than most 1955D RPMs.

Nope...Scott's not missing anything and there's nothing big about that coin. I am comfortable with my assessment that at least two people see the D/D as meaning "Doubled Die" and think this is the biggie.

Chuck it does look like it has a 10 degree Rotated Reverse. I spent all night going over my 1955D coins and not one is the now famous collectable ANAC D/D.

Takes at least 45 degrees for a rotated die coin to carry any premium.

Chuck,

I think you hit the nail on the head, must be confusing it for the big DDO. I looked at it today and the high bidder retracted a $3,000 bid because: "couldn't contact the seller". That would be an expensive lesson.

That was a "Tongue in Cheek" comment about the 10 degree RR.

Slabbed 1955D/D RPM #9 from ANACS ... I only see two that were auctioned thru Teletrade, (Jan. 1993 thru present day) as follows:

28 April 2003 for $15.00 (MS-66RD) ANACS

22 December 2004 for $18.00 (MS-66RD) ANACS

Cheers
