Has anyone heard of a 1966 "close date" lincoln cent variety?
I just recieved 7 BU rolls, and they are marked "close date".

I am not aware of any such variety but I am always open to new finds...

Hi Dave,
As long as I have been collecting Lincoln Cents (about 36 years), I have never heard of a 'close date' 1966 Cent. I have heard of close mintmarks to the date, but since there were no mintmarks on 1966 cents, I can rule out just a typo on your rolls. We will see if anyone else has a clue here in the forum, because if there is such a thing, I'd be learning something too.

Need an image to see what your talking about. It could be an off center strike? Or a misaligned die? Or what ever else could happen. So some images would help.

That's probably a Spadone carryover. Years ago a guy by the name of Frank Spadone wrote a guide to error coins where he pulled any coin that looked odd and wrote pie in the sky values for them and published the work. Nobody in the industry recognizes the work because of the complete lack of research in the book. A lot of assumptions, many of them completely incorrect, were published in his work, to include small and large date types that simply don't exist.
