Hi Jack..
Hub doubling and doubled dies are one in the same. There is no difference.
What you have is master die doubling. This same effect to varying degrees came on all 1957 proofs.

Chuck I was almost sure what this was, however it appears to be a fine line between what can be called a DD rather than a minor Master die double. Thanks for the comments.

Master die doubling is hub doubling, just like a doubled die. The difference is in that the design was doubled on the master die which created most of the working hubs, and in turn, the working dies. This means that most, if not all, coins of a given date and mint have the same doubling. It's not a matter of how strong or weak the doubling is.

Isn't master hub doubling common on cents from the 1940-1950 era?

No Robert...It actually isn't as common as most believe. It is actually called Master Die Doubling, not master hub (which can not exsist since it is the first major piece that produces everything else.). The master die doubling occurs sporadically in specific years, those well known are in 1937, 1938, 1944, 1955, 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1972. So other than the run of the early 60's, there is no commonality to when this doubling will occcur.
