Sounds great! It will increase the interest in the sets, and save the production costs of the billions for circulation. It will also give a chance to commemorate Lincoln's birth and the centennial of the cent with a 2009-S vdb in the proof sets. Change the design back to the wheat ears for that year and there will finally be an '09-D of the type.

I would like it as well but I have to tend to agree that the one cent has outlived it's usefulness. The only option is to incorporate another denomination, which I don't forsee happening. It appears we are destined to go to plastic.

I think the mint set idea has lots of merit. I'd sure hate to see us go plastic on our coins, even the lowly cent.
I don't see a new denomination being introduced between the cent and nickel. Of course my prediction capabilities are very bad. I was totally amazed when they actually issued the SACs. I figured the SBAs had put the final nail in the dollar coin coffin.

The price jumps lately have been enough. with the minting of the statehood quarters, a much needed rebirth in collecting has started and it will hopefully continue. I say we buy all the coins now, let them stop the cent, and rake in the profits.

Some great replys folks. Thanks for your inputs, and keep them coming if you have anything more to say about this.
The most recent information I can come up with is that about 70% of Americans want to keep old Abe.
