I have a 1993-S Proof that is clearly a Close AM. Seems like that is normal, but I forgot. I tried following Joeyuk's advice by looking at photos on Heritage's site, but couldn't find one. Tried looking on eBay, but photos all too small...can't tell if they're Close or Wide AM...examples:

If it is supposed to be Close AM, then was this the only year that Proofs were made in Close AM?

Hi Murph - Believe it or not, the 1993-S is the only proof with a closed AM that is NOT an error. In 1992, both the business strike and the proof coin were wide AMs, except for the 1992-D error that did produce a wide AM by mistake. In 1993, the mint went to the closed AM on both business and proof coins. In 1994, the mint went back to the wide AM for proof coins and the closed AM for the business strike. This remains true until 1998 when the wide AM is found on the business strike and just recently, the closed AM on proof coins. This also happened on the 1999 cent; a mix-up in dies for both the business and proof coins. Also the wide AM is found on the 2000 business strike. Hope this answers your question and good hunting.

Thanks Wavy. I have found lots of 1998 and 2000 Wide Am's in searching circulated bank rolls, but they, the 1992-D and 1999 are all I knew about. When I saw my 1993-S, I forgot which it was supposed to be. I kinda knew it was supposed to be close am because I know I have checked them out already over a couple years ago and probably would have caught it if it was important. But I'm glad you could answer my question - thank you very much.

Wide is normal for the 92-D. This link shows the NGC pops.

Happy 4th!
