I found a nice red BU cent recently. It was a coin I had removed from a dansco for a upgrade and placed in a 2X2 for lack of anything else to do with it. Every now and again I look thru my coins as it amazes me the things you can miss.
I noticed this cent has 2 clash marks on the rev.between the C ans E in cent. The marks correspond to the angle formed by the back of Lincolns head and back.
My question is how are the clash marks not directly over one another? The first mark lines up between the lowest bar of the E and lower loop of the C. The second mark is due south(about the thickness of the letters in cent) and stronger then the first. I should add the rev.(?) is slightly rotated.
I will try to post a pic. later.http://forums.collectors.com/attachments//1920%20rev%2E%20clash%2Ejpg

Joe: Looks like a real nice coin. As for the distance of the clashes? Alignment could be the answer. When looking at it under a scope the alignment may have moved when it closed with no planchet and possibly moved the die. Just a suggestion. What type of marks are on the obverse? Be interesting to see that side also?
