Even though the error coin section of E-bay is littered with off centered coins, clips and junk errors of the new bison nickel and state quarters, I still surf it in hopes and also for the occasional laugh. Although not to funny, this one caught my eye as being very peculiar. E-bay item # 8338881403.

Take a look at the auction and see what you think?

Regards to all

I don't think I would give it a chance. Obviously the seller knows not one bit about what they are doing. 1969S strike doubled coins are very prevelant and have been sold many times as doubled dies.

Just another tibit of informatiuon on this auction; the pictures are from "THE CHERRY PICKERS GUIDE" Vol. # 4 Exclamation I would be willing to bet a bunch of doughnut holes that some one is trying to pull a fast one.

Actually I didn't mention that in my post, but I noticed immediately that the photo was a Bill Fivaz photo and had been published a number of times in the past.

Perhaps that was an assumption on my part when writing in my previous post that I wouldn't give it a chance. I knew 100% that the photo used in the auction could definitely NOT be of the coin auctioned.

Hey, you want to see how credible this guy is? Check out his feedback. He used to have auctions were one bid of $1 would win you a surprise inside an envelope that he would open for you and send the money inside through Paypal.

The people who did bid found out that there $1 bid won them 25 cents...

I can get a much better deal than that here at Caesar's Riverboat Casino. Their slots are set to pay back I think somewhere over 70%.

Good one Murph. Razz

Just another update on that auction. El Tigre (a person who hates fraudulent and scam coin auctions) was notified of this particular one and corresponded with seller. The auction is no longer on Ebay, it has been cancelled. Unfortunetly, there are two more auctions on his site that are questionable. While the coin pictured is real, the same picture is used twice for different auctions; oversight or something more?

We in this hobby have to be made aware of these efforts by unscrupulous people. It doesn't happen often (but more than it should) on Ebay auctions, however, when it does, bring it to the attention of this forum. There is a wealth of information in the people who scan these pages and if it is a scam, they will have the best shot of uncovering it.

And talking about scams on E-bay, one more for your information. E-bay item # 8336163883; the item is not real and is in fact a copy.

Be careful, be sure, read everything before you bid and then reread it twice more.

You all have a great weekend,

I have run into a couple auctions quite recently that were questionable. One was the guy who was trying to sell a black GSA silver dollar box for $250. He had two notes in his feedback from people complaining that they thought there was supposed to be a coin in the box. The ads did say there was no coin, but itr was lost in all the other text in the ad. The guy was not nice to me when I asked him about it so I reported him to Ebay and the sale was taken off Ebay within 24 hours.

Another was a guy selling a mint state silver dollar using a photograph from Anaconda Coins. The photo was of a gem version of the same silver dollar from an Anaconda auction that was open at the same time. I tipped off Anaconda and they handled it.
