What's wrong with this picture? Photos are of the actual coin in the PCI holder.

It looks like PCI made a mistake in identifying the doubled die. That doubled die is in fact 2-O-1 under CONECA. It is listed under site site as 1972P-1DO-002.

As a non-Lincoln enthusiast/expert my only question now is: does the owner of the slab have a more valuable or less valuable coin than is IDed on the slab?

Well in this case getting a 2-0-V instead of a 3-0-V was a bargain because die 2 is worth more. : )
The scary part is they can also error the other way and you might get a bad deal. I like to see it myself if it's not graded by a solid reputable company. ; )

You are correct.
As coop said, "Buy the coin...not the slab," is exactly what I did. I knew it was mis-attributed by PCI. I paid Die #3 price -- and got me a nice Die #2.
Obviously, I did not share my knowledge that the coin was mis-attributed by PCI with the seller of the coin. Should I have?

Depends on the dealer. If he is a fried I might tell him. If he is a jerk, I'd buy it just to get back at him. As far as he knows it is label correct, he would sell it as is. I'm sure if it was backwards he would still have sold it and thought he was right. You run into all types of dealers. Those who want to listen to what you have to say, I treat differently than those who know it all. It just depends on the dealer to me.
