Some of you might not recognize this species; it is a Sand Hill Crane (sub-species from Florida). This bird stands about five feet tall and the sub-species is distinguished from the mani body od Sand Hills in that it does not migrate. This pair has been around our community for the last 9 years and they are still going strong.

Whats all that green stuff on the ground? We don't have that in Phoenix except where they flood their yard. My yard looks like dirt.. No pictures necessary for that. Get 5 feet tall? What do they eat? Slow cats?

LOL Coop We don't have slow cats in Florida...just really big birds with attitudes! And that green stuff.... BJ just threw some spinach on the ground so you wouldn't feel so bad. Speaking of rather large birds, we have a nesting pair of Blu Herons just down the road a bit near the bayou. They are a bit bigger than BJ's pets. Real cool when you see them too, especially for someone like me who grew up in Boston. The biggest birds we had up there were pigeons I think.

We have big birds here, but we call them ostriches. Well there is a farm between here and Tucson. Nothing bigger here than the roadrunner. (Not the one in the cartoon) We do have large lizzards here. They get real friendly, but over protective:

Another couple of local birds that seem to think that this is their lake are a pair of osprey (fish eagle) and in the winter months we will see a few bald eagles who come in to grab a fish or two. When the sand hills are around though, they rule the roost, chasing off the blue herons, the wood storks, the white herons and anything else that is as big as they are. Even the muskovy ducks give them a wide berth; they can get mean.

Large lizards Coop? - didn't know that they had gators in Arizona? There is a saying in Florida "where there is water there is a gator". Left a bucket out in the yard one afternoon, it rained that night and I'll be darned if an eight foot gator was in it the next morning, claiming it as its home !!!! And then we got those little guys; always trying to sell you insurance and changing color or eating bugs.

Bob was more afraid of the gas prices behind, but if he looks closer that is $1.59/1.69 not $2.59/2.69. The 17.99 not sure and the 14.99 either? Maybe that is for "lizzard repellant?"

I knew the sign said $1.59. That's why I pointed it out. I was thinking about moving if it was still that cheap! I may be blind, but I can still see pretty good

Sorry Bob, it is an old image. Prices now here over $2.39. I guess there was a better time at the gas pump. I can remember driving a bout 20 miles to get 26.9 back in 1973. It really wasn't out of the way, I would visit some friends and filler up!
