I don't know anyone who has one Bruce. We'll leave this post so if someone has one, they can respond. In the mean time, I will see if I can locate one for some pics.

Bruce: The close AM you can see on any Cent from 1992 forward and the wide AM you can see on any Cent before 1992. Hope this helps.
Correction
The 1993 was the first year with the close AM. The 1959-1992 have the wide AM. I was wrong the first time.

Bruce: That coin does exist the 1992 close AM. But probably limited to just one die that made them. So they would be a variety as the die that made them creats the same coin each time. An error only happens once to maybe several times, but not all the time.

Towards the end of the year of 1992, one of the technicians in the Denver mint had to change out the reverse die that had served out its usefullness. Inadvertently (or it could have been on purpose) a reverse die was taken from a box earmarked for use in the year 1993. Whether or not it was known by the technician that they had retooled the die by changing the reverse lettering is unknown, however, it is known that the reverse die was changed. How long the obverse die (the 1992) was mated with the reverse die (the 1993) is in question, but probably not to long for the obverse die was probably changed out for the new 1993 die.
I don't know if this story is exactly true, but it sounds good.

Bruce: Thus the correction. realized my error and showed the correction in bold to make sure everyone noticed. Sometimes if you correct or add to a post it doesn't get noticed unless you do something of note on it to call attention to it. Of course new readers catch it, but you have to reiterate to those who already read it one. Hoping the best for you. I took a drive to Prescott Valley and picked up a couple of boxes of circulated cents. Nothing of note except for a dime I found in the cent roll. I fot each box from different banks in that area, but they must be suppied by the same service as you can't tell one from the other.
Keep on searching, cause if is out there; we'll find it!

Ok now I guess its settled.
1992 P and D business strikes have the Wide AM
1993 P and D business strikes have the Close AM
Now what about the proofs for these two years? Are they the same as the business strikes or are they different than the business strikes?~lucky2

1992 P&D business & proof = Wide AM
1993 P&D business & proof = Close AM (to present)
'1994 Proof, back to Wide AM (to present)'
The above are what thy should be.
Below are some that have been documented:
business strikes
1992 (Close AM) Extremly Rare (Per - Coin World - 'cover story' - June 5, 2006 - issue)
1992D (Close AM) Extremly Rare
1998 (Wide AM)
1999 (Wide AM) Very Rare
2000 (Wide AM)
proof strikes
1998S (Close AM) Extremly Rare
2 known sales:
(ANACS: 68 RD, Heavey Cameo, 12 June 2005 for $906.00 on E-Bay, the other, which maybe the same, 'coin' ???) as noted: (laters in this thread, by: C. D. Daughtrey)

Pennyhound needs to add to his list of known varieties the 1998S proof close AM. I was the purchaser of the discovery set from Enid, Oklahoma on that variety. It was published in Coin World then offered at the ONA show in Oklahoma City the following month by the discoverer - last April, where I wrote the check for it. Purchase price was over $1000 -- it was resold to a private collector shortly thereafter.

1999S (Close AM) Rare
Other/s have been talked about (to exist) but not well documented, make it a regular check on all cent/s from 1991 to present, ya maybe pleasantly suprised and make a very important discovery.

Hi
In the 1992-d close am is the a&m touching or are they just a hair apart? And is the fg next to the right bottom step, or is it set off a little?

...usually just a hair apart, but they can be touching also. Look at a few of them and they all become two types to you: Wide AM's and Close AM's. Look at a lot of them. Become so familiar with them that you can immediately tell them apart upon first sight.Don't worry so much about the initials unless you get an AM that you can't tell which it is, then use the initials to help you figure it out. Good luck.
