HI ALL
I was going through some old rolls and found a roll of 1973-d with the rim much higer then the obverse. It is very noticeable is this common in older lincoln cents?

Bruce : I've found them in different years. The setup on them was stronger. They still weigh the same, just a taller rim. They caught my eye in 1999, but they are common. Proof coins have a taller rim, so you can't put 50 of them in a tube as they are taller. But no connection that I know of between the two.

Just adding my 2 cents ; )
I have seen that there are very many tall rims in 73 cents. It's one of the things you see in certain years then you hardly ever see in other years. Sometimes there can be something that looks odd other than the rim such as look at LIBERTY on some 76-P cents it's wide, or look at any 55-D at LIBERTY and the TY have doubling or many 68 cents have IGT running into the rims but then you see it on so many coins for that year so it adds no value. Sometimes these types of one year varieties are from a master die like those 55-Ds double TY or the 68 with IGT running into the rim was from over-using the working hubs, back to your 73 wide rim, it might have been strike pressure or something they did different that year. The next year 74 has a different bust and 2 types of bust/date and they were planing the aluminum cents in 74 that never were circulated. That change might have caused them to play with pressure or some variable in 73. The mints seem to do wacky stuff during any transition. On the bright side most 73 cents are nice stong strikes with high rims and bold bust compared to other years.

I've started a list of the common anomolies noticed while searching through Cents. But I know there are a lot more to add to this list. But this is what I have so far:
1972 P/D/S Cents LIBERTY IN GOD Common on all three mints.
1960-small-Mark on the outside edge of B in LIBERTY.
1960-Small inside end of the 6 is distorted.
1961 upper tail of 6 doubled. (looks like a small over large 6)
Damaged punch on 1962-D Lower left side of mintmark.
1955-D Cents Marks on the tops of BE in LIBERTY and 1 on Date. Wide letters on TRUST.
1956D- Broken lower 6 on date, some dies not all.
1957 Cents Obverse D & WE is disfigured.
Like I said, this is just some of the things I've noticed and there are more to add to the list. I was going to make a guess what year this is game by just showing the anomaly, but I guess the cat is out of the bag now. But you know me, I'll probably do it anyway...
